Description
Mid-Century Cast Iron Hummingbird Bistro Set, Original Finish, circa 1960s
A sculptural mid-century garden bistro set in heavy cast iron, featuring an intricate hummingbird and vine motif throughout. This set presents with its original factory-applied finish, exceptionally well preserved and remarkably clean.
The chair backs depict hovering hummingbirds woven into a lattice of organic foliage, echoed across the circular tabletop in a radial composition. The design balances decorative detail with structural solidity—each element cast as a unified form, not assembled—giving the set both visual refinement and substantial weight.
Unlike later aluminum reproductions, this is true cast iron, with a dense, grounded feel and crisp casting depth. The surface retains its original coating with no flaking, no corrosion breakthrough, and no visible restoration, an increasingly rare condition for outdoor iron of this period.
Elegant without being ornate, the motif reads as botanical rather than whimsical, making the set adaptable to traditional, cottage, or more tailored garden settings.
